Manush, Prapti win sub-junior table tennis crowns

Table Tennis ChampionshipsGuwahati, Nov 21: Manush Shah of Gujarat and Prapti Sen of West Bengal won titles in the Sub-Junior Boys and Sub-Junior Girls sections, respectively of the national ranking (East Zone) Table Tennis Championships here on Friday.

Shah blanked out Alberto Lrruata of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board Academy (PSPBA) 4-0 and Prapti defeated Maharashtra’s Manushree Patil 4-2 to claim their second titles this season.

The final between Shah and Alberto was disappointing because one expected the PSPBA boy to put up some resistance. However, Manush did not have to shed a drop of sweat as he wound it up much earlier than one would have anticipated.

Prapti, who began the season with the title at Chennai, opened up a healthy 2-0 lead, but the Maharashtra girl won the next. However, the Bengal paddler consolidated her lead which put extra pressure on Manushree. The sixth game went into deuce twice before Prapti put it across to seal her opponent’s fate.

Earlier during the morning session, Alberto and Manush set up a title clash by beating their rivals Jayabrata Bhattacharjee of West Bengal 4-1 and Shivjit Singh Lamba of Delhi 4-0 without much fuss.

The girls’ semifinals turned out to be a one-sided affair with AManushree blanking out state mate Aditi Sinha 4-0 and Prapti accounting for her North Bengal rival Nikita Sarkar 4-1.
