SC Judges split on Memon’s Plea, Matter referred to Larger Bench

1993 Mumbai blast convict Yakub Memon has received a temporary reprieve after his plea to stop his hanging has been referred to a larger bench of the Supreme Court following a split verdict given by the two Judges who heard the case. Justice Jospeh Kurian and Justice Anil Dave could not agree on whether to accept the petition or not. However, the apex court did not stay the scheduled hanging.

Yakub has pleaded that the death warrant for his execution is illegal, as it was issued when he had not exhausted all legal options.
