BJP-Fast1The senior BJP leaders in Odisha joined hands to hold a 12-hour fast from 9 AM till 9 PM outside the Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar, protesting against the rising cases of farmers’ suicide in the state and the alleged apathy of the state government over the issue.

Leaders such as KV Singhdeo, Bijoy Mohapatra, Biswabhushan Harichandan, Pratap Sarangi, Manmohan Samal, Surama Padhi, Prithviraj Harichandan are part of the fast, attended by hundreds of cadres.

Other BJP leaders Bhrigu Bakshipatra and Lekhashree Samantsinghar are among others, who are coordinating the entire movement. The BJP has slamemd the BJD Government for holding a Chasi Samavesh in Sohela in Western Odisha, which has been worst hit by the farmers’ suicide and asked it to spend the money on farmers’ benefits instead.

“The Naveen Patnaik government has completely failed to protect the interest of farmers. Farmers are dying and BJD leaders are mocking them. The government has become insensitive and arrogant and believes only in show of strength,” alleged the BJP.
