Sisir Saras kicks off in Bhubaneswar

SisirSarasBhubaneswar, Jan 4: The SisirSaras, an exhibition of colourful rural products, has begun here from 2nd January 2016 with around 600 participants from 23 States and Union Territories having displayed their products in about 290 kiosks. The exhibition organised by ORMAS in association with the Odisha Livelihoods Mission and the State Panchayati Raj Department, Odisha government, this will conclude on January 13, 2016.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Sj.NaveenPattnaik, Chief Minister, Odisha in presence of  Dr. Arun Kumar Sahoo, Minister of State (Independent Charge) Panchayati Raj  & Law, Odisha,Sj. Ashok Ch. Panda, Minister of State (Independent Charge) Tourism & Culture, Odisha,, Dr. Prasanna Kumar Patasani, Member of Parliament ,Sj.Bijay Ku. Mohanty, MLA, Bhubaneswar (Central) ShriPriyadarshi Mishra, MLA, Bhubaneswar (North),Sj.Ananta Narayana Jena, Mayor, BMC, Bhubaneswar, Shri Debendra Prasad Das, OAS, Director, Panchayati Raj Department, Govt of Odisha.

Mr. Naveen Pattnaik on  his speech emphasized on elimination of the middlemen in sale of the products made by the rural artisans.Such events would establish a direct meet between the seller and the buyer, he said.The Chief Minister also urged upon the administration and concerned agencies to involve more numbers of women SHGs (Self Help Groups) in such exhibitions to facilitate sale of their products.

The fair aims to alleviate poverty and encourage new technologies and business models among the state’s rural producers. “The main objective of the fair is to provide a platform to the rural producers and sale and display of their products”and strengthen the rural economy. Besides sale and purchase of various merchandises, the fair also organises a host of cultural shows, including dances likeOdissi, Gotipua, tribal and folk dance, Bharat Natyam, Odia film Song andSambalpuridance etc.

The attractions for SISIR SARAS in this year are Paper Mache , fancy candles & decorative lamps  products from Puducherry, Wrought Iron from UP, Tassar& Bell Metal of Chhattisgarh, Cane & Bamboo works of Assam & Tripura, Woolen products of Manipur, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and J&K, Jute, mate works, Horn craft, Handloom &Kantha stitch products of West Bengal, Chanderi Silk of MP, Dry Flower from Manipur &Arunachal Pradesh, Home Decorative & Furnishing Items from Gujarat, Leather shoes from Punjab and Rajasthan, Handlooms from Andhra Pradesh. Meenakari items from Rajasthan, Woolen products & Shawls from Uttarakhand and Jammu &Kashmir.Terracotta, Tribal Jewelry, Dhokra Casting Cotton Handloom Products, Kendujhari Phula Badi, Dry Fish and Spices/NTFP from Odisha.
