Saina, Sindhu enter Badminton World Championships Quarters

Indian stars Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu entered the women’s singles quarter-finals at the Badminton World Championships in Nanjing, China on Thursday.

Saina defeated Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand in straight games to enter the women’s singles quarter-finals. The 10th seeded Hyderabad based shuttler needed just 47 minutes to defeat her fourth seeded opponent 21-16, 21-19.

Saina thus became the first ever women’s singles player to reach eight consecutive quarter-finals at the Badminton World Championships.

Saina will meet seventh seed Carolina Marin of Spain in the last eight stage. Marin defeated 15th seed Sayaka Sato of Japan 21-7, 21-13 in the third round.

Meantime, PV Sindhu registered wins to enter the third round of the women’s singles today. Sindhu beaten World No.9 Sung Ji Hyun of South Korea 21-10, 21-18 to enter quarter-finals. (IANS)
