ONI Bureau: The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed use of fire crackers but with conditions. As per the Apex Courts’s order, only less polluting crackers with low emission will be allowed, for a limited time and in designated areas.
HIGHLIGHTS
- On Diwali, crackers will be allowed for 2 hours, from 8 pm to 10 pm.
- On Christmas and New Year, people will be allowed to burst firecrackers between 11:55 pm and 12:30 am.
- Bursting of crackers allowed for 2 hours in a day during weddings, other festivals and events.
- Only licensed traders can sell crackers now. The station house officer (SHO) of the police station will be held liable if banned crackers are sold in their area.
- The court bans sale of firecrackers on e-commerce websites.
- Supreme court directs Central Pollution Control Board to monitor air quality 7 days before and 7 days after Diwali.
- Only designated community areas in Delhi-NCR identified by Central Pollution Control Board will be allowed to use firecrackers.
