Bihar Assembly Polls to be held in 5 Phases from Oct 12

Bihar-Polls-ECPutting all rumours and speculations into rest, the Election Commission of India has announced the assembly poll dates for Bihar. Polling will be held in 5 phases, starting from October 12, 2015. Results will be announced on November 8.

In total, 243 assembly seats in Bihar will go to polls. 1st phase polling will be held on October 12, followed by October 16, October 28, November 1 and November 5. Results will be declared on November 8.

In the first phase, 49 seats will go to polls, followed by 32 in the second, 50 in 3rd, 55 in 4th and 57 in 5th phase. 6.68 crore voters are eligible to exercise their franchise. Central paramilitary forces will be deployed at every booth. High security and chopper deployment to be made in sensitive areas.

The ECI will deploy 243 general observers, 38 police observers and 80 paid observers to act as eyes and ears of the Election Commission, said EC Naseem Ahmed Zaidi. The EVMs will carry candidates’ photos to avoid “name sake problem”.

In 2010 assembly polls, the JD(U)-BJP had swept the elections. The JD(U) had won 115 seats, followed by BJP (91), RJD (25), Congress (4). Now, JD(U) has formed a grand alliance along with RJD and Congress. BJP has joined hands with LJP, RLSP and HAM.
