The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) triggered a major coup in Rahul Gandhi’s Amethi by roping in Anant Vikram Singh, son of senior Congress leader, Gandhi family loyalist and King of Amethi, Sanjay Singh, who is a sitting Rajya Sabha MP.
Anant was welcomed and given membership of the party by State party president Laxmi Kant Bajpai in Lucknow. “I will contest the polls from Amethi in future if my party wants me to do it,” said Anant Vikram Singh. Anant has a strained relationship with his father Sanjay Singh. Former BSP MLA Bhagwan Pathak and senior Samajwadi Party leader Rajeev Shukla too joined BJP.
The BJP also got a massive boost in Tamil Nadu, as former Union minister and film actor D Napoleon quit DMK to join the saffron party. Napoleon revealed that he joined the BJP with the blessings of former Union minister M K Alagiri, who is the estranged son of DMK supremo M Karunanidhi. He joined the BJP in the presence of party’s national President Amit Shah. Napoleon was a minister in the UPA II government.
