Congress tries to gherao EC Office, stopped by Police

ONI Bureau: An aggressive Congress Party, which has upped the ante over Election Commission’s alleged bias towards BJP and PM Modi, tried to gherao the EC office in New Delhi this afternoon.

The Youth Congress activists were detained by Delhi Police outside Sardar Patel Bhawan near Patel Chowk. They were put in buses to be moved away.

The Election Commission Office turned into a war zone, with hundreds of Congress workers trying to march, chanting slogans and holding placards while security personnel doing their best to stop them. Minor scuffles broke out in the process.

The Congress has taken strong exceptions to EC cracking the whip on Rahul Gandhi’s interview in local TV channels in Gujarat and asked why the same action is not being taken against the PM and his Ministers. The EC had not only ordered FIRs against Rahul Gandhi and the TV channels, but also there was a blackout of ABP Asmita TV and GSTV in most areas of Gujarat that are going to the polls today.

While taking note of the Congress’ complaint against the Prime Minister today, the EC has decided to probe whether the Model Code of Conduct was violated by the PM while casting his vote.

Meanwhile, the BJP has also lodged a complaint against former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh and Gujarat Congress leader Bharatsinh Solanki for violating poll code in the state.
