Nation pays homage to Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev & Rajguru

Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev & Rajguru Nation is paying homage to the great martyrs of India’s freedom struggle, Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru on their 84th martyrdom day, today.

It was on this day in 1931, the trio was hanged in Lahore central jail and were cremated on the banks of the river Satluj at Hussainiwala in Ferozepur district of Punjab, where the National Martyrs Memorial exists.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a ‘Shradhanjali Samaroh’ at Hussainiwala, will lead the nation in paying tributes to the martyrs. Another function will also be held at Khatkar Kalan, the native village of Bhagat Singh.

Modi is the second Prime Minister after Rajiv Gandhi, who came in March 1985, to visit Hussainiwala.

Yesterday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal appealed the nation to celebrate ‘Shaheedi Divas’ on March 23 as “Desh Divas” (National Day) to mark the death of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, who laid supreme sacrifice for the country.
