Swine Flu Toll in India at 493; Rajasthan, Gujarat Worst-hit

Swine-FluDespite all tall claims made by the government, Swine Flu continues to play havoc across the country. The toll has now reached 485 and approaching the 500 mark very fast. Rajasthan leads the pack with 153 H1N1 deaths, followed by Gujarat (144).

Eight new casualties were reported from Gujarat yesterday along with 152 new cases. The total number of positive cases this year has touched 1,674. In Rajasthan, 2, 167 patients have tested positive, while 153 died so far.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Women’s College of Aligarh Muslim University was shut down for five days on Saturday as a precaution against a possible spread of H1N1 infection. At least 58 Swine Flu deaths were reported from Maharashtra, while Telangana recorded 46 deaths so far. Over 60 Swine Flu deaths have been reported from Madhya Pradesh too. Punjab and Haryana have reported 23 and 15 H1N1 deaths so far.

As per the official data, the number of Swine Flu cases in 2014 was 937 while the death toll stood at 218. In 2013, 5,253 new cases were reported and the casualties stood at 699. But, in 2015, around 6,000 positive cases have been reported so far along with 485 casualties.
