67th All India Commerce Conference kicks off at KIIT

All-India-Commerce-ConferenceThe 67th All India Commerce Conference (AICC) of Indian Commerce Association (ICA) and International Seminar on Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability was inaugurated at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar on 27th December 2014.

The three-day mega meet was inaugurated by His Excellency Mr. Ubaldo Garcia Ruiz, Ambassador of the Republic of Costa Rica to India in the presence of Mr. Asif Iqbal, Honorary Counsellor, Suriname Embassy, Bangalore; Dr. P. K. Patasani, Hon’ble MP, Bhubaneswar; Prof. P. P. Mathur, VC, KIIT University; Prof. M. Ramachandra Gowda, President, AICA-2014; Dr. T. Shiware, Immediate Past President; Dr. Balwinder Singh, Secretary; Dr. P. T. Choudhary,Executive Vice President; Prof J. K. Parida, Conference Secretary; Prof. Sasmita Samanta, Organizing Secretary and other dignitaries.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Mr. Ubaldo Ruiz said, commerce education plays a vital role in the development of a country. Costa Rica has enormous opportunities to do commerce and business, he said, while calling upon the business community and industrialist of Odisha to do business and establish industries in his country. Noting that ethical values are being compromised in commerce, Mr. Iqbal suggested, commerce education should be based on value and ethics combined with knowledge.

Prof. Mathur stressed on technology oriented commerce education, while Prof. Gowda, in his presidential address, expressed concern over various financial scams in recent years. Today commerce has lost human values and ethics, he stated. He stressed on market and industry oriented commerce education and skill development. Dr. Singh informed, ICA has plans to start Indian Commerce Academy which will impart training to the commerce teachers. Dr. Choudhary commended Founder of KIIT & KISS, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, also Chief Patron of the conference, his efforts in eradication of poverty through education. A standing ovation was given to Dr. Samanta for his noble work. Dr. Patsani stressed on value based commerce education as it plays a vital role in growth and development. Among others, Prof. Parida and Prof. Samanta also spoke at the inaugural ceremony.

M. M. Shah Memorial Research Gold Medal was presented to Prof. Bani Kanta Mishra, well-known commerce academician of Odisha, on the occasion. He received Rs. two lakh cash prize with citation and memento. Prof. Ramakanta Jena, Prof. Pramod Ku. Sahoo, Prof. P. C. Tripathy, Prof. Binayak Rath, Prof. Prashant Sahoo, Prof. Gunanidhi Sahoo, Prof. G. P. Acharya, Prof. Brajaraj Mohanty, Prof. Swarup Ch. Sahoo, Prof. U. C. Patnaik, Prof. D. P. Nayak, Prof. S. P. Mishra, Prof. Ayodhya Prasad Nayak, Prof. Damodar Biswal, Prof. Bimal Prasad Nanda, Prof. Malay Ku. Mohanty and Prof. B. S. Pani were felicitated for their outstanding contribution to the commerce education.

This prestigious conference is being organized by KIIT University in association with P.G. Department of Commerce, Utkal University. It features four technical sessions on ‘Services Marketing: Challenges Ahead’, ‘Developments in Capital Market: Market Efficient Revisited’, ‘Changing Dimensions of Human Resource Management in Globalised Era’ and ‘Insurance Business: Issues & Perspective’. As many as 3000 delegates from across the country and eight delegates from foreign countries are participating in this conference. Three hundred research fellow including ten under graduate commerce students from various parts of India are participating for the first time in this conference.
