Rights Activist Akhand receives Pipili Ratna 2015 AwardWell known Human Rights Activist and an Independent Journalist of the state, Akhand has been conferred with prestigious Pipili Ratna (The Jewel of Pipili) award at 16th Pipili Mahotsave in Puri on 14 April.  A noted local social worker Dr Nabakishore Rout  presented the award to the young activist.

Akhand is a grass-root Human Rights Defender from Pipili, a small town in Odisha. But till now more than 6000 persons have benefited by the intervention of Akhand and more than millions of people are the beneficiaries in view of policy making after the judgment of Apex rights panel i.e. National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). Before this award Akhand was awarded with many awards that includes Sarojini Naidu Prize (National Award) for Development Reporting on Women’s Role in Panchayati Raj System in Indian(2008) and Kalinga Book Fair Writer Award for his book Political Love(2011) and Best Human Rights Activist of the Country (2014).

“We are proud to honor him. He is not only work for our area, his contribution towards human rights is nationally acclaimed”, said Pradyumna Subudhi, the organizer of the Mahotsava.
