12 convicted, 1 Acquitted in 7/11 Mumbai Train Blasts Case

Mumbai-7-11-BlastThe Special MCOCA Court in Mumbai has convicted 12 out of 13 accused, while acquitted one in connection with the 7/11 train blasts in 2006, which claimed the lives of 188 people. The incident had occurred on July 11, 2006. Apart from 188 deaths, over 700 people were injured in the blasts.

The blasts were triggered at the first class compartments of local trains between 6.24 and 6.35 PM, when lakhs of office-goers use Mumbai’s local trains to return home. All accused were part of banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) group.

While 22 accused were arrested in connection with the blasts, 15 are still absconding. Key conspirators Faisal Shaikh and Asif Khan were among the convicts. Abdul Wahid Shaikh was acquitted.
