BJP gains in Rajya Sabha Biennial Polls; Subhash Chandra, Sibal win

Subhash Chandra Rajya SabhaThe Bharatiya Janata Party won 12 out of 27 Rajya Sabha seats that went to polls today. Congress managed to win just 6. Samajwadi Party won seven seats in Uttar Pradesh in today’s polls.

It was a big relief for the Congress, as its senior leader Kapil Sibal won the polls from Uttar Pradesh against BJP-backed Independent candidate Preeti Mohapatra. In Madhya Pradesh, Vyapam Whistleblower Vivek Tankha won the polls with Comgrrss support. In Uttarakhand too, Congress emerged victorious.

In Haryana, Congress received a major setback, as its candidate RK Anand suffered a shock defeat to Zee Group Chairman Dr. Subhash Chandra, who contested as an Independent with BJP support. At least 14 Congress votes were found invalid in Haryana. The party High Command has sought an explanation from Bhupinder Singh Hooda, it is believed.

In Jharkhand too, BJP played its cards well to win both seats. While Naqvi was sure to win, Mahesh Poddar was made to win with a careful strategy.

If we take into account the unopposed members too, BJP won 19 out of 58 seats, while its allies won 4 more. Congress won 10 seats. BJP is all set to get the support of AIADMK. So, they would feel about the AIADMK win in 4 seats.
