BJP wins Bengaluru Municipal Polls, but Congress seeks Mayor’s Post

Bengaluru-PollsAlthough BJP won 100 out of 198 Wards in Bengaluru Municipal polls, it could be prevented from retaining the BBMP Council. Congress, which won 76 Wards, may still win the Mayor’s post with JD(S) support.

In the 255-member Council, 57 Members of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, MLAs and MLCs have voting rights. The magic number to win the Mayor’s Post, remains 128. The BJP has 125 Members, including Corporators, MPs, MLAs and MLCs. The Congress has a total strength of 101, while the JD(S) has 21 members. Others have 8 seats.

If Congress, JD(S) and others join hands, they will have 130, which is more than the magic number. JD(S) Chief HD Devegowda has not yet revealed his cards. He is busy in keeping his Corporators intact. If we believe the reports, both BJP and Congress are trying hard to keep their flock together and woo the Independents.
