Former BSP Leader Swami Prasad Maurya joins BJP

Maurya-ShahProminent OBC leader of Uttar Pradesh and former close aide of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati, Swami Prasad Maurya joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today in the presence of Amit Shah and others.

Maurya joined the BJP along with many of his supporting leaders, who were with the BSP earlier. He had quit the BSP in June alleging corrupt practices adopted by Mayawati in ticket distribution.

Born in Pratapgarh, Swami Prasad Maurya attended the Allahabad University and attained Bachelor of Laws & Master of Arts degrees. He has been a MLA for four terms. He also held various portfolios in governments headed by Mayawati. He was the Leader of the Opposition in Uttar Pradesh Assembly prior to his resignation from the BSP.
