No Deal, No Surrender; Yakub Memon was indeed Arrested

Yakub-MemonWithout going into the details of article written by late B Raman (Former senior R&AW official), some vested interests are quoting him to report as if Yakub Memon surrendered on his own and signed a deal. Here are the key features of his article:

* Yakub Memon and his family members were involved in the 1993 Mumbai blasts.
* He was shielded by the ISI in Pakistan.
* Under pressure, he wanted to surrender and gave a slip to the ISI to come to Kathmandu. But, he was persuaded by a lawyer friend and changed his mind.
* Yakub was about to board the flight to Karachi, when he was arrested and deported to India.
* He was formally arrested in New Delhi and then cooperated in the probe.
* Yakub even persuaded some of his family members to surrender in Dubai.
* The prosecution did not present all information, which led to his death sentence.
* Although he deserved death sentence for whatever he has done, there should be some leniency for his cooperation in the probe.

The article did not say about any deal between Yakub and Intelligence Agencies. Raman clearly said that he was arrested in Kathmandu and was involved in the blast. The CBI did not even make him as an Approver because of the nature of his crime. Raman sought leniency for Yakub, as he cooperated in the probe process.
