Overnight Hearing on Yakub Memon’s Plea begins at Supreme Court

High drama was witnessed throughout the night after some eminent lawyers approached CJI HL Dattu, seeking fresh hearing of Yakub Memon’s plea. The Supreme Court started hearing the case at around 3:20 AM – a first of its kind.

Prashant Bhushan, Indira Jaising, Vrinda Grover, Nitya Ramakrishnan, Anand Grover, Yug Choudhury and Raju Ramachandran had approached the CJI earlier. The same bench that rejected Yakub Memon’s plea on Wednesday, is hearing the fresh plea, which seeks a 14-day stay on the execution on technical grounds.

Justice Dipak Mishra, Justice Prafulla Chandra Pant and Amitava Roy are hearing the case. Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi is representing the government. Anand Grover is defend Yakub Memon.
