Truth about BJP’s Loss in Narendra Modi’s Jayapur Village

Jayapur1A loss is always embarrassing whether it’s BJP’s loss in Jayapur, Samajwadi Party’s loss in Mainpuri or Congress rout in Amethi. PM Narendra Modi drew a lot of criticism after his party lost the panchayat polls in Jayapur village in Varanasi, which was adopted by him under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY).

Modi had adopted Jayapur. Villagers in Jayapur Pratham (Madhuri Devi) and Jayapur Second (Kripa Shankar Singh) Wards elected BJP-backed candidates. That is the area adopted by Modi. But, in other Wards, BSP-backed candidate gained significant lead and won the Panchayat.

Ramesh Tewari, who won the panchayat poll in Jayapur, had the support of Brahmins and Patels at other polling areas. With BSP support, things became easier for him. But, BJP still got good lead in Jayapur village.

BJP supported Arun Kumar Singh alias ‘Rinku’ with criminal cases, but rejected a strong candidate like Tewari. They had to pay the price. Needless to say, Modi neither campaigned nor appealed for votes in panchayat polls. It was fought on local issues only. Even, Samajwadi Party-backed candidate lost in Tamauli village, which was adopted by Mulayam Singh Yadav.
