2 People killed in Cracker Unit Explosion in Ganjam

cracker-blast in ganjamGanjam, Sep 4: Two people were killed today morning in an explosion at a firecrackers making unit at Nalabanta village in Asika area in Ganjam district. It is reported that crackers went off while marking crackers at the unit.

Soon after the blast at the unit, villagers took the injured people to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where the duo succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment. They duo identified as Ashok Pradhan and Pintu Khatua.

Police rushed the spot and started investigation into the matter. It is noteworthy that four people killed this week in explosions at cracker marking units in the district. Earlier, two people including a five year old child were killed in a similar explosion in the village of Goudiapathala under Bhanjanagar police station on Wednesday (Sep 2).

Villagers have been working in the firecracker making units for their livelihood and the business of the firecrackers has been in full swing ahead of Diwali festival.
