Bail Plea rejected; Abhijit Iyer-Mitra sent to Jharpada Jail

ONI Bureau: The SDJM (Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate) Court has rejected the bail plea of Strategic Writer Abhijit Iyer-Mitra and sent him to 14-day judicial custody. Abhijit has been taken to Jharpada Jail after denial of his bail.

The Konark Police has sought a seven-day remand of Abhijit Iyer-Mitra. The remand plea will come up in the court later.

The Twin City Commissionerate Police had earlier arrested Abhijit Iyer Mitra in connection with case filed at Sahid Nagar Police Station over his derogatory remarks against Odisha, Konark Sun temple and State MLAs.

Soon after his deposition before the Odisha Assembly House Committee, Saheed Nagar Police immediately took Abhijit into custody and was being interrogated at an undisclosed location.

It is to be noted that case against Abhijit Iyer has been registered in Saheed Nagar Police Station on September 20 under section 153-A, 295-A and 298 of the Indian Penal Code and section 66 of IT Act.
