Bhubaneswar to host ‘Make in India’ Conference in December 1 & 2

Odisha-Make in IndiaMake In India (MII) Conference has been proposed to be held at Bhubaneswar on 1st and 2nd December, 2016. This was discussed in a high level meeting held under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary Sri Aditya Prasad Padhi in secretariat conference hall today wherein Principal Secretary Industries Sri Sanjeeb Chopra outlined the issues for discussion.

The Joint Secretary Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion Sri Atul Chaturvedi, Ministry of Commerce & Industries Govt of India made an outline presentation on the MII. The representatives of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and Federation of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries also made presentations on various aspects of the Conference. Considering all these, Chief Secretary Sri Padhi advised to show-case the potential of Odisha in defined focus sectors in the conference. Sri Padhi also advised to have effective action plan for converting the investment intentions to definite investment &  project proposals for grounding in Odisha.

It was decided in the meeting that the conference would contain more of the G2B and B2B activities in focus sectors of Odisha. Govt of Odisha has identified 5 focus sectors. These include ancillary & downstream industries in metal & aluminum, petroleum, chemicals & Petro chemicals including plastics, IT/ ITES hardware & ESDM, Agro & sea food processing and apparel & technological textiles Odisha has well recognized natural and human resources in these sectors.

The investment opportunities in these sectors are quite vast. Odisha is the largest producer of aluminum in the country with 54% of total aluminum smelting capacity. Odisha is also largest stainless steel producing State in the country. The State is one of the top 3 cashew producer and 2nd largest fruit producer state of the country. Odisha is also one of the largest sea food producing states of India.

The conferences will show-case all these potential of Odisha. Chief Secretary advised to prepare a list of potential domestic and international investors in these sectors and invite them to the conference. Principal Secretary Steel & Mines Sri Raj Kumar Sharma, Special Secretary General Administration Sri Ashok Meena, Secretary F& ARD , MD OMC Sri R. Vineel Krishna, MD IDCO Sri Sanjaya Singh , Joint Secretary Industries Sri Basanta Kumar Das along with senior officers from respective departments and representatives from CII, FICCI participated in the deliberations.
