BJD goes aggressive to get support on Women’s Reservation Bill

ONI Bureau: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has decided to go aggressive to garner support for 33% reservation for women in both Parliament and State Assemblies. It was decided at a crucial meeting at the Naveen Niwas this evening.

The party would form delegation to meet 7 National and 15 Regional parties, seeking their support in this regard. MPs and MLAs would be part of the delegation that would meet the political parties, including BJP and Congress.

Earlier, CM Naveen Patnaik had written to PM Narendra Modi to initiate steps to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill that would ensure a third of seats in Parliament and state assemblies for women. The Odisha Assembly had also passed a resolution extending support to Women’s Reservation Bill.

The Women’s Reservation Bill, which was passed by the Rajya Sabha in 2010, is currently pending in Lok Sabha.
