BJD stages protest over Jaitley’s remark on Polavaram Project

Odisha BJD members staged protest after the central government’s assurance to Andhra Pradesh regarding Polavaram Project.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said: “The Centre is committed to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act passed by both houses of parliament.”

The Biju Janata Dal members led by Bhartruhari Mahtab took strong exception to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s assurance to Andhra Pradesh on the issue. He asked how could the union minister give such an assurance to Andhra Pradesth, when the matter was in the Supreme Court.

Mahtab further said that, the Polavaram Project is a multi-purpose irrigation project. It touches parts of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. The river has been accorded national project status by the central government.
