BJP, Congress to protest over Farmers’ Suicide in Balangir

Farmer's suicide Balangir districtBalangir, Oct 28: One more farmer of Balangir district has committed suicide by consuming pesticide. Pari Nag, 40 of Batharla village of Gandharla Gram panchayat in Bangomunda block had cultivated 3 acres of land out of which 1 acre was cotton and rest 2 acres were covered under paddy crop which failed due to scanty rainfall. Pari took poison on 25th October evening and was admitted to the mission hospital Khariar in a serious condition. He died on 26th night.

The land Pari was cultivating was jointly owned by 3 brothers. As the land was not sufficient to provide food to the families of three brothers, two other brothers of  Pari migrated to other cities for earning their livelihood.

“He had borrowed money from local money lenders to invest in agriculture. He was depressed for sometime as crop failed” said Ajit Nag, elder son of Pari.

“The Naveen government has completely filed in addressing the problems of farmers. It has no right to rule the state” said Congress Party leader Adhiraj Panigrahi. BJP leader Sanjay Tiwari demanded compensation of Rs.5 lakhs for the family of Pari.

In the meanwhile, both Congress and BJP are planning for road shows and public meetings in different places of Nuapada district. Congress party has planned a rally of 25 thousands people in Sinapali block on October 30 to protect against the apathy of Naveen government towards the farmers.

“The Padayatra will start from Ghuchaguda village and reach to Jogenpadar Chhatria of Sinapali where a public meeting will be conducted. It will be attended by PCC president Prashad Harichandan, and other senior leaders like Narasingha Mishra, Bhakta Dash, Srikanta Jena, Jayadeb Jena and Pradip Majhi” said Adhiraj. “Our party demands Rs.25 thousands of compensation per acre of crop loss and declaration of drought in Nuapada district”, added Panigrahi.

BJP MLA Duryodhan Majhi and leader Sanjay Tiwari habe said that the party will launch block wise protest to raise farmers issues.
