CBI grills Odisha chief of Astha International in Bhubaneswar

CBI-BBSRBhubaneswar, Mar 10: A three-member team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) grilled Subhranshu Lenka, Odisha Chief of Astha International on Thursday at Jharapada jail here while investigating into multi-crore chit fund scam in Odisha.

According to reports, a court permitted the CBI team to interrogate Lenka for two days. The team interrogated Lenka about his company’s financial transactions today at the jail. Earlier, on Feb 23, for the first time the team had questioned the brother of Subhranshu – Chandrasekhar Lenka about the company activities and financial transactions at his office here.

Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch arrested Subhranshu Lenka on June 8, 2013 in connection with chit fund scam. The Ponzi firm had opened two offices in Bhubaneswar and Berhampur in 2010. The company attracted many investors by floating various schemes assuring the investors of providing high returns on their investments. The company had reportedly duped investors of around Rs 100 crore through its schemes. Besides the chit fund activities in Odisha, the company had also ventured into real estate business in West Bengal.
