Centre cancels Water Aerodrome Project in Odisha’s Chilika Lake

ONI Bureau:  The Central Government withdrew its proposal for a water aerodrome project at the Chilika Lake in Odisha, informed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) chairman Guruprasad Mohapatra on Monday.

The Airports Authority has cancelled the seaplane project after the state government through video conferencing requested that the project would affect the eco system of Asia’s largest blackish lagoon.

Earlier, the Civil Aviation Ministry has approved a proposal for setting up of water aerodromes at Chilika Lake in Odisha, Sardar Sarovar Dam and Sabarmati River Front in Gujarat in first phase to promote tourism as well as connect places of religious importance.
