Chief Secretary orders Survey of 13 Drains in Bhubaneswar

Chief Secretary G.C. Pati - Revenue Collection up by 4%Bhubaneswar, Aug 6: Chief Secretary of Odisha government has directed Housing and Urban Development Department to conduct a survey of 13 major drains in the capital. He raised concerns over the depleting ground water level and poor drainage system in Bhubaneswar and other surrounding areas.

Expressing concerns over the discharge of sewage into Gangua canal, Chief Secretary directed to take measures to end this practice. He also directed the department to expedite renovation of Gagua canal and submit a status report, while addressing a high-level meeting at Secretaritat in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. A deadline of March 2016 has been set to make the capital city free from open defecation.

Among others, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) R Balakrishnan, H&UD Secretary G Mathivathanan and Water Resources Department Secretary Pradip Jena were present in the meeting.
