Cops under attack near Trahi Achyuta Ashram, Section 144 Imposed

Even though the Commissionerate Police arrested Sura Baba alias Surendra Mishra, Chief of Trahi Achyuta Ashram and his sons under various sections of the IPC, SC/ST Act and Arms Act, the local residents continue to create disturbances in the area. They pelted stoned and attacked the cops, who have so far exercised restraint. The mob is protesting against the detention of 11 accused, who were indulged in violence yesterday.

Several policemen, including Chandrasekharpur IIC DS Pratap. The cops are lobbing teargas shells to disperse the violent mob. Another vehicle was torched at the Ashram premises today despite police presence. According to some reports, DCP Satyabrat Bhoi and Additional DCP were also injured in the attack.

Section 144 has been imposed in and around the Ashram. Four platoons of additional policemen are being sent to the area.

Meanwhile, Trahi Achyuta Ashrams at various places of Odisha, including Tikarapada on Konarak-Kakatpur road, Khurda, Athagarh, Baliapal and Remuna have been attacked and properties were damaged.
