Gurupriya Bridge inauguration still behind schedule

ONI Bureau: The inauguration of much awaited Gurupriya Setu over Janbai river, to create a link between the cut-off regions of Chitrakonda block and the district headquarters of Malkangiri has been further delayed due to bad weather.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who was slated to inaugurate the bridge on July 18, postponed further after Met department predicted heavy rain till July 18. The programme would be fixed after improvement in weather condition after July 20.

The bridge would provide good road communication to the villagers and government programmes can easily reach to the doorsteps of cut-off villagers. The construction of the bridge started in 2015 at a cost of Rs 172.58 crore.

Maoist banners and leaflets were found in various places in the district who have been opposing the project, aim to trigger violence ahead of the programme.
