Maternal Mortality Ratio stands at 180, drops by 42 point in Odisha

ONI Bureau: Odisha’s Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) has declined by 42 point against the national average, according to a national survey released on Wednesday.

In the national average the MMR reduced by 37 point, whereas the point in Odisha is 42, stands at 180 down from 222 in 2011-13. With this Odisha has now categorized under “Empowered Action Group” (EAG) states.

As per report, Kerala remains at the top with an MMR of 46 declined by 25%.

India has shown impressive gains in reduction of Maternal Mortality with 22% reduction in since 2013.  Maternal Mortality Ratio of India has declined from 167 per 1,00,000 live births in 2011-2013 to 130 per 100,000 live births in 2014-2016. Every day 30 more pregnant women are now being saved in India as compared to 2013.
