With an aim to impart quality teachers, the National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE) has asked the Odisha Government to increase the duration of Bachelor of Education (BEd) course from one year to two years.
Besides, the NCTE has also directed all autonomous colleges in Odisha to offer BEd training programme, Higher Education Minister Pradeep Panigrahi informed the Assembly on Wednesday.
The NCTE has intensively revised the B.Ed. Course and upgraded to make it a two-year programme with at least 20 weeks of class room teaching experience, in order to produce better qualified teachers.
Earlier, NCTE had asked the State government regarding this, while the State education department asked for two years of time for implementing the plan citing lack of infrastructure and adequate teachers in all these colleges.
