North Orissa University renamed after Mayurbhanj Maharaja

The Odisha government on Wednesday renamed the North Orissa University after Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo, the erstwhile Maharaja of Mayurbhanj.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also said that the state government will expedite development works for the varsity library.

Odisha is celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of the Maharaja of Mayurbhanj this year – paying tributes to the man who has contributed immensely towards the development of the state.

Established in 1998, the main campus of the university is located at Baripada.

The announcement came following a proposal presented by the Mayurbhanj MP Mamata Mahanta at the State Council Meeting of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Monday.
