Odia Filmstar Mahasweta Ray jumps into Lotus Pond

ONI Bureau: Veteran Odia Filmstar Mahasweta Ray (55) joined the Bharatiya Janata Party today in the presence of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and other senior leaders.

“I have joined politics to serve the people of Odisha. I will reach out to the masses. I have been inspired by PM Narendra Modi and his vision. I hail his ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ initiative. I was thinking of joining BJP for the last one and half year and finally took a decision today”, she said.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan welcomed Mahasweta into BJP and termed her as a great personality of the state. Filmstars Mihir Das and Anu Choudhury who had joined the BJP a few weeks ago, were also present at the occasion.

Mahasweta was born in Puri and studied at SCS College. She has been a leading actress in Odia as well as in the Bengali film industry. She was known more the on-screen chemistry with legendary actor Prashanta Nanda, who was with the BJP earlier, but now remains with BJD.
