Odisha CM announces Financial assistance for Senior Handloom Weavers

HandloomChief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday announced a new scheme-“Barishta Bunakara Sahayata Yojana”, aiming to provide financial assistance to senior handloom weavers during  a state level function in Bhubaneswar on the occasion of “National Handloom Day”.

“Under the new scheme, weavers having 20 years of working experience and above 60 years of age will get a monthly financial assistance of Rs 500 per month and after attaining the age of 80, it will be enhanced to Rs 700 per month which will be credited to their bank accounts directly”, The Chief Minister said.

Patnaik also declared that the state government is ready to support the livelihood of the handloom weavers in the state and a number of steps have been taken to elevate their status.

The Textile Inspectors and field staffs under the Assistant Director of Textiles have been asked to visit the house of each weaver’s family and will find out their necessary requirements to improve their livelihood, said Textile and Handloom Minister Snehangini Chhuria.
