Odisha forms Committee to prepare Roadmap to boost Odia Language

 

Odisha GovtThe Odisha government on Friday formed a committee to prepare a roadmap for creating a “Centre of Excellence for Odia Language” in the lines of Tamil and Kannada in their respective states.

The Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Department of Culture, Arabinda Padhee will head the committee, which will prepare the said roadmap and present to the Government for its approval.

The decision was taken in the high level meeting in the state secretariat, presided by the President of Odisha Sahitya Akademi and attended by Culture and Tourism Minister Ashok Chandra Panda and other functionaries of the state government along with Dr. Pratibha Roy, Dr. Debi Prasanna Pattnaik, Dr. Bibhuti Pattnaik, Dr. Manoroma Mohaptra, Dr. Garunga Dash and may other literary genius of the state.

The committee will also analyze the report submitted by a team that had recently visited Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to study the centre of Excellence formed for the two classical languages of these states.

The initiative comes after Odia language got the status of classical language by the Union Government. The Centre for Excellence for Odia Language will initially function at Sanskrit University at Puri.
