Odissi Dancer Sujata Mohapatra selected for Sangeet Natak Akademi Award

ONI Bureau: Noted Indian classical dancer and teacher of Odissi dance, Sujata Mohapatra has been selected for Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards 2017 in the field of dance – Odissi.

Born in Balasore, the dancer started learning Odissi at an early age from Guru Sudhakar Sahu. She married to Ratikant Mohapatra, son of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra.

The Sangeet Natak Akademi, India’s national academy for music, dance and drama announced that 12 artists from the field of music, 9 each from the fields of dance and theatre, and ten artists from the traditional, folk, tribal music, dance and puppetry fields have been selected for the awad. Mohapatra along with 42 other artistes from across the country have been selected for the prestigious award.
