One more Farmer ends life in Odisha’s Nayagarh District

farmers-suicideBhubaneswar, Nov 2: Despite the announcement of special drought package for farmers by the state government, debt ridden farmers have been ending life one by one in Odisha. One more farmer committed suicide on Monday.

As per reports, Laxmidhar Bhatt, a farmer of Raipada village in Nayagarh district breathed his last at a hospital in Cuttack, where he was undergoing treatment. He was admitted to the SCB medical college and hospital in Cuttack on October 28, as he suffered mental pressure following crop loss.

Odisha government reports confirmed 41 farmers suicide in the state. However, as per unofficial estimate the more than 50 farmers in the Odisha committed suicide due to crop failure. As many as 15 farmers in the Bargarh district have committed suicide since September making the district on the top in the list of farmers’ death. Till date, four farmers ended life in Bolangir district while three suicides each reported in Samabalpur and Naupada districts.
