SC directs Odisha Govt to identify unauthorized Temples for demolition

ONI Bureau: In its final hearing on the sensitive temple demolition case of Odisha, the Supreme Court on Tuesday told the Odisha government that the State Govt is free to take decision for demolition of unauthorized temples.

A division branch of the Apex Court while conducting the hearing of the case asked the state government to submit a report in this regard within three months.

Worth mentioning, on 2011 Orissa High Court directed to list the number of unauthorized  temples, according to which 207 temples were listed in Cuttack and thousands of temples all over Odisha for demolition.

Following the notification, the State Government began the demolition drive in 2013 during which 36 temples in Cuttack including Gundicha temple were demolished. While, the case was stayed by the top court in May 2013.
