Shortage of Lecturers: Higher Education derails in Odisha

ONI Bureau: While replying to an adjournment notice, the Odisha Government admitted severe crisis in the Higher Education sector in the state.

Higher Education Minister Ananta Das accepted in the Assembly that 1,010 lecturer 1,010 lecturer posts are lying vacant in various Govt Degree Colleges across Odisha. Steps are being taken to fill up 833 posts, he said. 1,625 posts were filled in 2016-17.

The Government also admitted that while 5 out of the 8 Universities in the State are short of Odia Professors, the GM University Rama Devi University don’t have a single Odia Professor.

Earlier, Congress Party had also moved an adjournment notice over poor quality of Higher Education in Odisha due to teacher shortage.
