Two CPI Maoists surrender before Rayagada SPRayagada, Aug 18:  Two militias belonging to CPI (Maoist) surrendered before the Superintendent of Police, Rayagada today here. Both identified as Lokanath alias Rahul Gagaranga, S/o-Kala, aged- 25 years & Sunil Gagaranga, s/o- Jagili. aged-26 years belong to Tangadappa village in Piskapanga Gram Panchayat of Chandrapur Block. They worked for the then Basadhara Division led by Sabyasachi Panda, Azad and Uday.

Both these surrendered ultras used to provide support the movement of CPI Maoists in Chadrapur area. They were providing food and shelter to Naxals whenever they used to visit their area. They used to organise Naxals meetings in the area.

Their role were suspected in the offences at Chandrapur with PS case no-14/2013 dated 03-9-2013 u/s 4 & 5 Explosive Sub Act/17 Cr.LA Act. On 31st August, 2013, basing on reliable source of information on the movements of CPI Maoists in Belundi village area of Chandrapur PS, the E/8th Battalion of CRPF platoon camp at Raibiji of Chandrapur block conducted a search operation including sniffer dogs in the forest areas of Belundi and nearby villages. During the course of operation a steel tiffin carrier containing fifteen kgs of IED connected with a wire was recovered from the jungle near Lidingpadar under Chandrapur PS. Some books written by Sabyasachi Panda, one magazine named Nissan, fourteen pieces of letters, one blue polythene & one white polythene were also recovered. Later on 2nd September, 2013, the bomb was blasted by taking all the precautions by the Bomb Disposal Squad.

Lokanath was also involved in blasting Danagasorada outpost under Muniguda PS during December 2008. A case was registered vide case no-149/2008. He alonwith other militia was sent to weekly sandy at Hanumantaput under Chandrapur PS to conduct reccee regarding presence of security personnel who had come for marketing. An ambush took place in which one Havildar of CRPF 8th Battalion died and  one Police Constable of Chandrapur was severely injured. A case was registered vide Chandrapur PS case no-8/2010 dated 31-12-2010 u/s 302/310/34 IPC 25/27 Arms Act/16/18/20 UAP Act.

As the Basadhara division is becoming increasingly weak, the surrender of these two tribal militias will pave the way for more surrenders. An interface with the tribal youths is need of the hour for a mainstreaming process, said the local tribal leaders named Dharuni Saraka, Satya Pratika from Dangasorada area of Chandrapur block. More confidence building measures need to be taken up by the district administration, said Sunamani  Pratinga, Ex-Sarapanch of Piskapanga GP in Chandrapur.

Both the ex-militias will be rehabilitated as per government norms. The SP Subramani and Additional SP Patel were present during the press meet.
