Election of Odisha Union of Working Journalists concludesRayagada, Aug 18: Election of Odisha Union of Working Journalists (OUWJ)-Rayagada Chapter, which is affiliated to Indian Journalists Union (IJU) was held at Lions’ Club Rayagada. Sri Niranjan Biswal, Secretary General of OUWJ alongwith OUWJ’s Bhubaneswar Chapter’s President Sri Hrushikesh Mohanty conducted the election. The office bearers of the Rayagada Chapter were unanimously elected and the election result was declared by the Election Officer Sri Bijay Choudhury.

Sri Jogeswar Das and Sri Deepak Kumar Prusty were elected as President and General Secretary respectively. The other office bearers named Sri Dilip Panda as Vice-President, Sri Bijaya Ulaka as Vice-President, Sri Ajay Rath as Jt.Secretary, Sri Sanjay Pradhan as Jt.Secretary, Sri Manoj Sahu as Jt.Secretary, Sri Manoranjan Dalai as Treasurer were also elected with consensus. Eleven executive body members were nominated one from each block of Rayagada. Like earlier years, this year, as suggested by the Secretary General, no advisors were nominated. Three members from the list of office bearers will be sent to the state executives at a later stage. This body will continue for the next three years. This list of office bearers were approved by the State Secretary General Sri Biswal and was sent to Collector, SP, District Labour Officer and other government, non-government agencies and corporate houses.

More than forty participants took part in the election process in spite of incessant rains. Sri Biswal requested all the members to revamp the activities of the Union by preparing a roadmap with specific milestones for the next three years. Establishing an office, initiating a process for insurance for the benefit of the scribes, enlisting the names of each member with DIPRO, a strong membership drive and an immediate district level convention, etc can be some of the activities to begin with, Biswal suggested. At last, the newly elected office bearers took oath to dedicate them for the betterment of the society in general and fulfilling the rights of the scribes in particular. Sri Maheswar Brahmachari tendered vote of thanks.
