Vigilance Team arrests suspended IPS officer Joydeep Nayak

joydeep-nayakVigilance team arrested Senior Tripura-cadre IPS officer Joydeep Nayak from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh who was involved in misappropriation of Rs 88 lakh last month which was meant for computer education of SC/ST students and self help groups (SHGs) in Odisha.

Earlier, he has appealed for anticipatory bail, but Orissa High Court has rejected his anticipatory bail applications.

The Tripura government had suspended Nayak, a 1991-batch IPS officer due to unauthorized absence from the duty. He was posted as Director, in Fire Service department in Tripura, and was later transferred as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to State Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (SIPARD).

The State Vigilance officials had lodged a case against Nayak and five others over alleged misappropriation of Rs 88 lakh.

As IG of Odisha SC/ST Protection Cell, Nayak proposed to the SC/ST Department that funds to be sanctioned which will help to promote computer literacy among SC/ST students in the coastal areas of the state.

The proposal was approved and on December 9 last year Rs 88 lakh was credited to the bank account of IG, HRPC.
