Villagers protest Waste Dumping at Daruthenga near Bhubaneswar

Daruthenga-tension-A-600x360Chaos prevailed in Daruthenga on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, as hundreds of villagers gathered at the spot protesting the dumping of waste material in the dumping yard located at their village.

The situation became tense as villagers clashed with police while trying to enter the dumping yard. 20 villagers have been detained by police as a preventive measure during the protest.

Around 18 platoons of police forces had been deployed at the place to hold the situation under control. 106 trips of waste were dumped on Day 1 today. The operation will resume tomorrow.

Police commissioner YB Khurania, Bhubaneswar Municipality Corporation (BMC) commissioner Dr Krishan Kumar and Khurda collector Niranjan Sahu rushed to the spot to supervise the dumping operation undertaken amid high security.
