Australia beat Pakistan in T20 WC, keep Semifinal Hopes Alive

Steven-Smith-T20-WCWith a comprehensive 21-run victory over Pakistan, Australia kept their semifinal hopes alive, while Pakistan got knocked out of the ICC T20 World Cup with third straight loss in the tournament.

It was Australia’s second victory in the tournament. They had lost to New Zealand, while defeated Bangladesh and Pakistan. The winner of the match between India and Australia will make it to the semifinals.

Earlier, Australia posted 193/4 in 20 overs. Skipper Steven Smith was the top scorer with an unbeaten 61, while Shane Watson remained not out on 44. Glenn Maxwell made 30. Usman Khawaja contributed 21. Wahab Riaz and Imad Wasim took two wickets each.

Pakistan tried their best, but failed to counter the Australian aggression in the field. They finished at 170/8 in 20 overs. Sharjeel Khan (30), Khalid Latif (46), Umar Akmal (32) and Shoaib Malik (38*) were the top scorers. For Australia, James Faulkner took five wickets. Adam Zampa took two wickets.
