Germany in HWC 2018 Quarterfinals; Netherlands & Pakistan in Crossover

ONI Bureau: With a 5-3 win over Malaysia, Germany finished at the top of the points table and qualified for the Quarterfinals without losing any match in the group stage. Malaysia is out of the Hockey World Cup 2018. Netherlands beat Pakistan 5-1 in the other game. Both teams qualified for the Crossover.

In the first match, Malaysia put up a spirited fight, but could not stop Germany. Tim Herzbruch (2nd, 59th), Marco Miltkau (39th) and Christopher Ruhr (14th, 18th) scored the goals for Germany, while Razie Rahim (26th, 42nd) and Nabil Noor (28th) scored the goals for Malaysia. Christopher Ruhr was declared the ‘Man of the Match’.

In the second match, the Netherlands completely dominated Pakistan and won the match 5-1. Thierry Brinkman (7th), Valentin Verga (27th), Bob De Voogd (37th), Jorrit Croon (47th) and Mink Van Der Weerden (59th) scored the goals for the Netherlands. Umar Bhutta scored the lone goal for Pakistan in the 9th minute. Steve Van Ass was declared ‘Man of the Match’.

Netherlands will meet Canada in the Crossover on December 11. The winner of the game will play India in the Quarterfinal on December 13.
