West Indies beat England, win ICC T20 World Cup

The final between West Indies and England at the Eden Gardens turned out to be a thriller, thanks to fighting spirit among the players in both teams. The Carribeans had the last laugh, as they won the title for the second time.

The match went to the last over. West Indies needed 19 runs off 6 balls. They had lost six wickets and top scorer Marlon Samuels was at the non-striker end. It was expected that Carlos Brathwaite would take a single to give Samuels strike. England smelled victory. But, Brathwaite hit four sixes in a row to take the game away from England.

Earlier, England scored 155/9 in 20 overs. Joe Root was the top scorer with 54. Buttler (36) and Willey (21) were the other top contributors. Dwayne Bravo and Brathwaite took three wickets each. Badree took two wickets.

England got Gayle early. But, failed to contain Marlon Samuels. West Indies achieved the glory, thanks to Samuels and Brathwaite. They reaches 161/6 in 19.4 overs. Samuels remained unbeaten on 85. Brathwaite made 34* off 10 balls. Dwayne Bravo contributed 25.

For England, Willey took three wickets, while Root took two wickets. Samuels was declared ‘Man of the Match’. Virat Kohli was adjudged ‘Man of the Tournament’.
