O P Rawat assumes charge as Chief Election Commissioner of India

ONI Bureau:  Om Prakash Rawat took charge as the Chief Election Commissioner of India on Tuesday. His tenure will end in December this year.

Rawat served in key positions for both the Union Government and the Madhya Pradesh.

Born on 2 December, 1953, the 64-year-old Rawat is a retired 1977 batch IAS officer belonging to Madhya Pradesh cadre.

Rawat was an election commissioner before taking over from Achal Kumar Joti. He has also served as the Public Enterprise Secretary of India.
