In a historic development, US President Barack Obama has accepted the invitation made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to become the Chief Guest at the Republic Day Function on 26th January, 2015. Obama will become the first US President to attend the R-Day function of India.
“This Republic Day, we hope to have a friend over…invited President Obama to be the 1st US President to grace the occasion as Chief Guest”, Modi broke the news on Twitter. Moments later, it was confirmed that Obama has accepted the invitation.
As Modi has raised his stature as a global leader, he has met Barack Obama twice, once at the White House during the US visit in September and then during the G20 Summit in Australia this month. Obama is said to be very much impressed with Modi’s personality and charismatic leadership. He sees Modi as a ‘Man of Development’.
